WHAT IS THE PRIMARY SECTOR?

PRIMARY SECTOR

The primary sector involves getting raw materials from natural resources. Only the 5% of Spanish population work in the primary sector. We can import and export products. Import is to buy products from another country. Export is to send goods (products) to another country.

Date PRIMARY SECTORThe primary sector involves getting raw materials from natural resources. The primary sector works are:

  • Fishing: It is to get fish from the marine or freshwater ecosystems. It can be deep-sea fishing or coastal fishing.
  • Forestry: It is to plant and take care of forests to use them later. Deforestation is a bad practice that destroy habitats.
  • Mining: It is to take minerals and rocks from the ground. There are: open-cast mining (on the surface) and underground mining (below the Earth's surface)
  • Farming: It is to grow crops (Arable) or raise animals (livestock). There are dry crops and irrigated crops. There are extensive farming (outdoors) and intensive farmig (enclosed)

WHAT IS THE SECONDARY SECTOR?

SECONDARY SECTOR

The secondary sector is going to use the raw materials to convert them into finished products like: cars, phones, oil, shoes, bread, furnitures, etc. 24% of Spanish population work in this sector. This process is called MANUFACTURING. Most of this manufacturing is done in factories. Spain is the biggest producer of olive oil, the third biggest producer of wine and the second biggest producer of cars in Europe.

  • Heavy industry: It produces big products. Ex. petrochemical, metal and shipbilding industries.
  • Light industry: It produces small or normal products like textiles, cosmetics, electronics, pharmaceutic and food.
  • Craft industries: It uses tradicional techniques (hand-made).
  • Energy industries: It uses gas, coal, oil, water, wind or sun to turn them into energy.
  • Construction: It uses raw and manufactured material to build things.
