The integration of Grammar Translation Method with the Communicative Approach.
Advantage
disadvantages
Students have some difficulties understanding the lessons, as the medium of instruction is the students' mother tongue, which is used to explain conceptual problems and discuss the use of a particular grammatical structure of a second or foreign language that it is learning. standardized foreign language tests do not yet attempt to assess communication skills, so students have little motivation to go beyond grammatical analogies, translations, and other written exercises.
There are two reasons why teachers continue to use the grammar translation method, the technical reason and the procedural reason.
From the point of view of the pedagogical process, the method is still considered effective for teaching for two reasons:
to. It is the easiest and shortest way to explain the meaning of words and phrases.
B. This method requires few specialized skills on the part of teachers (Brown, 1994).
