INDEX

Hi, I'm Laura and today I'm going to talk about an admirable illustrator for his great work, I'm talking about Alex Ross.Alex was born in Portland - Oregon on January 22, 1970, graduated from the American Academy of Art. Nowadays he works for the two most important comic book franchises, Marvel comics and DC comics.

INTRODUCTION

Now we will see and comment on some of his work. The first time I saw Alex Ross' illustrations was in the intro of “Spider man 2”,released in 2004. I couldn't appreciate his work at that time because I was only 3 years old. but later when I grew up I got fascinated by his amazing work.

SPIDERMAN 2

This illustrator's technique is watercolor, a technique based on mixing a pigment with water, his works are hyper- realistic, which means they lack simple shapes and therefore doesn't use contour lines. In his works we can see some contrasts, he is a professional in the use of lights and shadows to create volume and realism in his works. Now I will talk about some of his work.

TECHNIQUE

In this illustration, light predominates and there is little contrast we can find shades of primary colors, In Peter's shirt there is red, blue is seen in the jacket and in the background and finally there is some yellow tones in the lights. The setting in this illustration is mainly made up of parallel straight lines.

ILUSTRATION 1

Here we see lights and shadows which creates a lot of contrast with great intensity in the scene.Even if it lacks color.

ILUSTRATION 2

In this illustration, the superheroes are very close to each other, there are colors of all kinds, but once again the primary ones are predominant, although they are also complementary, so there is a wide spectrum of colors.

ILUSTRATION 3

In this last illustration, yellow and red predominate over other colors, the composition of this scene is diagonal. The shadows are enhanced by the backlight produced by the beam behind the characters, creating contrast.

ILUSTRATION 4

These are some small samples of the work of this illustrator. I encourage you to see more of his work, for example on his instagram profile.
