If you wanted to know where the food rationing was being distributed, which air-raid shelter was being used, or to receive news about your son, boyfriend or husband, you had to buy a newspaper. The Bilbao newspapers of the time were full of cartoons.

Introduction

We are going to delve into the different artistic styles of that period to understand the influence they had on our cartoonists. The period of these cartoons is very specific: it begins with the Civil War in July 1936 and ends in June 1937 with the fall of Bilbao, since these newspapers were closed down for being sympathetic to the Republic.
