In 1897, Santos Jorge composed the "Istmeño Hymn", which at first was a student song, but reached levels of popularity among the population. Santos Jorge had composed the official music of the hymn but he had no lyrics, so he told his friend Jerónimo Ossa to write a letter for him.
The flag of the Republic of Panama is the most important of the national symbols of the Republic of Panama.
