The MTP
The Master Teacher Program is designed by College teachers for College teachers in collaboration with the Consortium of Anglophone Colleges. It supports the development of professional competencies needed to be a reflective practitioner in college education.

Three consecutive levels are available for participants: a Graduate Certificate, a Graduate Diploma, and a Master of Education in College Teaching.All courses are offered in English online and at local Montreal Colleges. (Online classes are available for participants from outside the Montreal region.)The Master of Education level curriculum is designed to prepare participants to design and implement research projects that will increase their understanding of how their professional decisions can have an impact on their students, colleagues, and the institutions they serve.
Graduate Certificate in College Teaching (GCCT) The Graduate Certificate in College Teaching (GCCT) consists of 15 credits designed for college educators wanting to improve their understanding of current principles and practices in the context of higher education. Did you know?
- 15-credit program: 11 mandatory and 4 elective credits
- Designed to meet the needs of both new and experienced college teachers
- No prerequisites for most of the courses
- Shared list of elective courses with the GDCT
- Most courses are 1 or 2 credits, so that teachers can take a course in their busy schedule
- Professional development activities organized locally can be recognized as academic credits (some conditions apply)
- When completed, the credits obtained in the GCCT can be transferred to the GDCT
Graduate Diploma in College Teaching (GCCT) The Graduate Diploma in College Teaching (GDCT) consists of 30 credis: the 15 credits required in the Graduate Certificate in College Teaching (GCCT) plus the 15 credits to be obtained at this level. It allows students to develop scholarly, research-led approaches to teaching while engaging in activities and tasks aimed at cultivating critical reflection about higher education. Did you know?
- 30-credit program : 21 mandatory credits and 9 elective credits
- Shared list of elective courses with the GCCT
- After having earned a minimum of 27 of the 30 credits, a student may be admitted to the Research Component of the M. Ed. (certain conditions apply)
Master in Education in College Teaching (M. Ed.) The Master of Education in College Teaching (M. Ed.) consists of 45 credits: the 30 required for the Graduate Diploma in College Teaching (GDCT) and the 15 credits associated with the production of the master’s research project. It leads to a Master of Education in College Teaching degree (M. Ed.). Did you know?
- 1 to 4.5 years to complete the Research Component, according to the availability of the courses and the supervisors, as well as the student’s schedule
- The Master Paper must be submitted no later than 54 months (14 terms) after registering for the first course of M. Ed. program
- Must be registered in a course every term until the final paper is submitted (requests for a leave of absence can be filed)
- A Guide for the Research Component is made available to all participants
- Most colleges have an Ethics Review Board to assess the morality and fairness of all research projects conducted on their campus. All research proposals are submitted to the review board for their scrutiny, suggestions and endorsement before any research data can be collected.
