Geographical Location

The United Kingdom is composed of some islands in the northern part of Europe and the northwestern coast of France. The country includes the island of Great Britain which is made up of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. England occupies most of southern Great Britain, including the Isles of Scilly in the southwest coast and the Isle of Wight in the southern coast.

Flag Meaning

The Union Jack is the most important of all British flags and is flown by UK representatives around the world. In certain military, naval, royal, and other authorized uses, it may be incorporated into another flag. For example, it forms the canton of both the British Blue Ensign and the British Red Ensign.

Royal Anthem

God Save the Queen, also called (during a kingship) God Save the King, is the British royal and national anthem. The origin of the paean is riddled with conundrum and obscurity. The many candidates for authorship include John Bull as well as Henry Carey. The earliest copy of the words appeared in a Gentleman’s Magazine in 1745; the tune appeared about the same time in an anthology, Thesaurus Musicus—in both instances without attribution.

Royal Family

As everyone knows the head of the royal family is Queen Elizabeth II, followed by the remaining principal members:

  • Charles, Prince of Wales;
  • Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall;
  • Prince William, Duke of Cambridge;
  • Anne, Princess Royal;
  • Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex;
  • Sophie, Countess of Wessex.
Members of the Royal Family support The Queen in her many State and national duties, as well as carrying out important work in the areas of public and charitable service, and helping to strengthen national unity and stability.
