Design of English Teaching Resources
Villota Lopez, Dora Eugenia Yanza Valdez, Jorge Luis Yautibug Paz, Amarilis Aracely
Didactic materials that benefit students and teachers in this pedagogical environment to develop the four macro skills of the English language.
Didactic material is considered one of the most useful tools to simplify the academic process. It is used to connect teachers and students. It is a bridge between teaching, learning, and real life because they substitute the real world.
Teaching-Learning Materials have a significant role in the class. They are important for the teachers to be effective in their lessons as they help students to a better understanding of the concepts, contents, as well as facilitate them to acquire a significant and real knowledge to improve their performance (Graves & Garton, 2014, p 417).
During the Teaching and Learning process, didactic resources play an important role in providing students permanent learning. It is said that the effectiveness of the learning process depends on the way this activity develops the learner's skills. (SEVEN, s.f., p. 1)
A good foreign language teacher has to prepare the visual and audio materials she/he will use while she/he is preparing his/her lesson plan. Also she/he has to know how and when she/he will use those materials, because the more she/he uses visual and audio materials during the course, the better students concentrate on the lesson. (SEVEN, s.f., p. 1)
Determining educational resources for teaching english
This duty is not easy because teachers must take into account many aspects and factors, for instance:
- Students' preferences
- Students' needs
- Educational environment
- Learning outcomes
- Learning objectives
- Etc.
important Factors to design the best teaching materials
Copyright Compliance
Curriculum
Learners
Teacher must be clear about the restrictions that some materials downloaded from the Internet have.
Teacher has to keep in mind this with all the implications on its outlines and context.
Teacher must identify the learning needs and interests from his students.
Time
This factor is considered a disadvantage when teachers want to design their own materials
Summary
The best didactic materials are selected by keeping in mind the objectives of the learning so that skills can be constantly developed. A perfect didactic material must:
Help to develop motivation of the learners.
Provide reinforcement for better learning.
Help to understand difficult concepts.
Make the learners active.
Personal opinion
In our opinion, the role of the teacher when deciding on subject-specific materials is very important, not only because it must take care of student learning, but also because it focuses on the individual needs of students, and through those approaches decide the study material to apply according to what you want to convey in class, and the preferences of the students.
We consider that the role of the teacher is valuable because the students' learning is in their hands, because according to the materials that the teacher decides to use in their classes, the students will learn and feel motivated to learn and even to investigate and acquire more knowledge beyond the one the teacher shared with them.
