What is an ecosistem
Ecosistems:
An ecosistem is a group of living and non-living things that live in the same area. All elements of an ecosistem interact.
Living and non-living things
- A living things or organism performs the three vital functions and is made up of cells.
- A non-living things is an object that does not have life, it is not made up of cells or performs vital functions.
- Examples of non-living things: water, soil/ rocks, air, sun, temperature...etc
- Examples of living things: the animals: ladybugs, humans, plants: like lavander.
Species, population and community
A group of organism that can reproduce with other individuals that make up the species and produce fertile offspring.
A group of different populations that live together make up a community.
A population is made up of all the individuals that belong to the same species.
Producers, descomposers and consumers
Producers are plants.First, plants take nutrients from the soil and energy from the sun. Then, they carry out photosynthesis to make their own food .Animals and other organisms use plants as food.
Consumers are animals and organisms that eat other living things . 1.Primary consumers that eat producers are called herbivores. For example: a cow eat grass. 2.Secondary consumers that eat other consumers are called carnivores. For example: lions eat cows. 3.Tertiary consumers that eat both producers and other consumers are called omnivores. For example: bears eat plants, other consumers...etc
Descomposers are bacteria and fungi that feed off the remains of dead animals and plants .First, they break down the nutrients into small pieces .Then, they return these nutrients to the soil, where plants use them.
Food chains
Living things in an ecosytem eat each other. This is how energy passes from one living thing to another. If we draw a line between them to ilustrate this, we have a food chain.

Food Webs
In an ecosystem, most living things are a part of several food chains. When we connect the different chains, we make a food web.For example, many species live in forests.Foxes eat birds and mice.Frogs eat insects and so do mice.Owls and cats eat mice.
Endangered animal research:
Animal: Koala
Type: mammal (marsupial)
Interesting facts: Koalas sleep 20 hours a day approximately, also they are born with two centimeters in size and one gram of weight.
Animal profile:
this animal is engandered because...
koalas live in trees, more common in eucalyptus, as they feed on their leaves. Due to the massive felling of trees and forest fires this species is in danger of extinction
Cold deserts and Taiga
Taiga is a Russian word that means dense evergreen forest. It covers the very north of Europe, Asia and North America.
- Temperatures are very cold
- It snows in winter and the days are long anmd rainy in summer
- There are many evergreen trees such a pine and fir trees
- Herbivores like rabbits and reindeer live there, carnivores like wolves live there too
Antarctica and Greenland are cold deserts.
- Temperatures are freezing
- Is little precipitation
- The land is covered in snow and ice and there is very little vegetation
- Animals have a thick layer of fat to keep warm
Temperate forests and warm deserts
Many temperate forests are located in Canada, the eastern United States, Europe and China.
The Sahara and Atacama deserts are hot and dry.
- Temperatures are very high during the day and and cold at night.Precipitacion is escarce.
- There is very little vegetation.
- The animals that live there, such as camels, survive on very little water.
- Temperatures are cold in winter and mild in summer .Rain is moderate.
- Trees are mostly deciduous.
- There is a wide variety of animals, wich often migrates during the cold winters.
Savannahs, rainforests and jungles
The amazon and Congo rainforests are the largest in the world.
Savannahs cover half the surface of Africa. There are also savannahs in Australia, South America and India.
- Temperatures are high and it rains all year long.
- Vegetation is abundant.
- There are many different types of living things and animals such as sloths, tapirs, jaguars, tigers, howler monkeys, spider monkeys and orangutans.
- Temperatures are high all year long. There is a 'dry season' and a 'wet season' .There is almost not rain during the dry season.During the wet season, it rains a lot and plants grow.
- The land is covered mostly in grass and a few trees and shurbs.
- There is a wide variety of animals such as zebras, elefant, giraffes, gazelles and buffalo.
Tips to take care of the enviroment
10 tips to save the enviroment
- Do not let the water run if we are not using it.
- Turn of the light when leaving a room.
- Not use the car so much, if you can walk or bike.
- Do not use unnecessary plastic things like straws or plastic bags, since you can use a cloth or paper one.
- If you can buy second-hand clothes or in stores that use ecological materials.
- We can also carry out activities that favor the enviroment such as cleaning the beaches or plant trees and more plants.
- We can also not throwing waste or garbage in to the forests, beaches...etc.
- Reduce paper consumption, since we use unnecessary paper and this causes the felling of trees.
- We can also consume more fruits and vegetables and not so much'junk food', since this causes factories and companis to manufacture more food, in addiction to the fact that so much of this food is bad our health, the smoke and fuel produced by those factories and machines they pollute a lot.
