monera

monera

  • This kingdom consist of unicellular organisms with prokaryotic cells.
  • Prokaryotes are the most abundant organisms on Earth and live under a wide range on enviroments
  • It is divided in two large group: Bacteria and Archaea

Lactobacillus Casei

  • It is believed that this bacteria improves digestion because it is a probiotic
  • They are found in the intestine and mouth of humans.
  • This particular species thrives a wide pH and temperature range
  • It produces lactic acid.

Methanogenium frigidum

Psychrophile

  • What is it used for? It helps to make products in biotechnology development, scientist examine how they can live in extreme temperatures
  • Where do they live? They live in extremely low temperatures Like in North Pole and in South Pole

protists

PROTISTS

  • They are mostly unicellular organisms but there are also some multicellular protist.
  • We have described about 50000 protists species
  • This kingdom includes groups of eukaryotes that do not fit in the animal, plant, or fungi categories.

Domain: Eukaryota Kingdom: Protist Phylum: Amoebozoa Order: Euamoebid Family: Amoebidae Genus: Amoeba Specie: proteus

Amoebozoa

  • They are characterized by their changing shape.
  • They live in water or land.
  • They feed on smaller organisms or decaying particles

euglena

Domain: Eukaryota Phylum: Euglenozoa Class: Euglenoidea Order: Euglenida Family: Euglenaceae Genus: Euglena Specie: desees

  • The euglena has one single nuclei
  • The euglena habitat is the freshwater as lakes, ponds, rivers
  • Their diet is green sea wrack and amoebas

pLANTAE

VAleriana

Kingdom: plantaeDivision: Magnoliophyta Class: Magnoliopsida Order: Dipsacales Family: Caprifoliaceae Genus: Valeriana Specie: officinalis

  • The habitats where these plants grow are generally humid and cool
  • They are autotrophic
  • Their way of reproduction are both asexual and sexual
  • The conservation status of this plant is least concern

Chuquiraga jussieui (Chungay)

Kingdom: Plantae Division: Tracheophyta Class: Magnoliopsida Order: Asterales Family: Asteraceae Genus: Chuquiraga Specie: jussieui

  • It is located in the Andean region at more than 3500 masl
  • Use: It has several uses such as a diuretic and febrifuge use ( for the fever)
  • Reproduction :They have two means of reproduction such as sexual and asexual

Fungi

They are heterotrophic organisms

In Ecuador we have aproximate 96000 species of fungi.

They lack motility that means that the cannot move

Pleurotus ostreatus

Domain: Eukaryote Kingdom: Fungi Division: Basidiomycota Class: Agaricomycetes Order: Agaricales Family: Plaurotaceae Genus: Pleurotus Specie: ostreatus

  • A characteristic of the oyster mushroom is the hat resembling an oyster that is flattened.
  • Its meat is thick and firm of an almost white color.
  • It grows parasitically on decaying wood; especially on softwood trees, it also grows on the highest part of living trees.

Hypsizygus Marmoreus

Domain: Eukaryote Kingdom: Fungi Division: Basidiomycota Class: Agaricomycetes Order: Agaricales Family: Lyophyllaceae Genus: Hypsizygus Specie: marmoreus

  • This mushroom is difficult to cultivate.
  • It is an exotic mushroom well known in the Asian market.
  • It is especially suitable for cold and medium temperatures

animalia

  • Their cells are eukaryotic and do not have cell walls nor chloroplasts
  • This kingdom has the highest number of species described, more than a million.
  • The can move independently during a stage of their life cycle
  • Jaguars are the only big cat in the Americas and the third biggest in the world after tigers and lions.
  • Unlike many other cats, jaguars do not avoid water. In fact, they are quite good swimmers.

jaguar

Kingdom: Animalia Phylum: Chordata Class: Mammalia Order: Carnivora Family: Felidae Genus: Panthera Specie: onca

  • This animal is considered as “Almost threatened” that mean that is near to be endangered.

ANDEAN CONDOR

Kingdom: AnimaliaDivision: Chordata Class: Aves Order: Cathartiformes Family: Cathartidae Genus: Vultur Specie: gryphus

  • The andean condor is a south american bird
  • The condor is primary an scavenger, feeding on carrion
  • It is considered a vulnerable specie and the number is decreassing
