"El Grito de Rebellion” or “Cry of Rebellion” is a mark of the start of the rebellion to liberate us under Spanish colonization. These events are important markers in the history of a colonized nation like the Philippines who struggled for independence against the Spanish colonization.
Where did the cry of rebellion happened?
The controversy regarding this event stems from the identification of where and when the cry happened. According to a prominent historian, Teodoro Agoncillo emphasized that it happened when Katipuneros Tore apart their cedula led by Bonifacio. Yet According to some historians, it happened After Emillio Aguinaldo commissioned the “Himno de Balintawak” to uplift the morals of katipuneros after Pact of biak na bato failed.
A commemorative monument was built to honor the heroes of 1896 at the intersection of Epifanio de Los Santos Avenue and Andres Bonifacio Drive-North diversion road and From then on until 1962, the Cry of Balintawak was celebrated on the 26th of August.
