The country's rich repertoire of literary masterpiece may be rooted in the diversity of the filipino people. They speak of the collective experiences from the people have gone through difficulties, triumphs, struggles, successes, armed conflicts, bloodless revolutions, and others

- was a Filipino American author, poet, and activist.
- A chronicler of the Filipino American experience during the 1930s - early 1950s
- he is best remembered for his semi-fictional, semi-autobiographical novel America Is In the Heart (1946) — a staple in American Ethnic Studies and Asian American Studies classes.

- Among her students were Loreto Paras Sulit, Paz Latorena, Bienvenido Santos, Manuel Arguilla, S.P. Lopez and National Artist Francisco Arcellana, who later emphatically declared, “She was the mother of us all!”
- “Dead Stars.” This story, first published in 1925 and regularly anthologized since, is considered the first modern short story written in English by a Filipino.

- Rene Estella Amper was born on October 18, 1940 in Boljoon, Cebu.
- as poet, he has participated as an Asia Foundation Writing Fellow at the Silliman U. Summer Writers' Workshop in 1968 and 1969. He has also shared the 2'nd Palanca prize in poetry in 1989 with Fatima Lim for a collection called All Else Is Grass .
