El verbo to be en presente

El verbo to be es uno de los más importantes de la lengua inglesa. Su significado equivale a los verbos ser y estar del español, por lo que dependiendo del contexto de la frase se interpretará con un significado u otro.

She is sad Ella esta triste.

She is tall Ella es alta

Estructura del verbo to be en presente

Affirmative form Las oraciones afirmativas son aquellas que declaran o enuncian algo verdadero.

* I'm in the kitchen. (yo) Estoy en la cocina. You're very intelligent. (tú) Eres muy inteligente. He's at work. (él) Está en el trabajo. She's my wife. (ella) Es mi mujer.

It's for kids. (ello) Es para niños. We're strong. (nosotros/as) Somos fuertes. You're students. (vosotros/as) Sois estudiantes. They're on holiday. (ellos/as) Están de vacaciones.

Negative form

Las oraciones negativas son aquellas que niegan algo. Asi pues, se añade la partícula not después del verbo.

They are not - 're not - aren'tThey're not on holiday. (ellos/as) No están de vacaciones.

You are not - 're not aren't You're not very intelligent. (tú) No eres muy inteligente.

We are not 're not aren't We're not strong. (nosotros/as) No somos fuertes.

He is not - 's not - isn't He's not at work. (él) No está en el trabajo. She She's not my wife. (ella) No es mi mujer. It It's not for kids. (ello) No es para niños.

I am not - 'm not I'm not in the kitchen. (yo) No estoy en la cocina.

Interrogative form

Am I...? Am I in the kitchen? (yo) ¿Estoy en la cocina?

Are we...? Are we strong? (nosotros/as) ¿Somos fuertes?

Are you...? Are you very intelligent? (tú) ¿Eres muy inteligente?

Are they...? Are they on holiday? (ellos/as) ¿Están de vacaciones?
