The 'be' verb is a another important part of Present Simple. It is a presentation set within this one.

The Tenses

Tenses tell us when something happens.

They ONLY refer to verbs*.

Present Simple is simple. We use it in three ways.

  1. talk about recurring events*
  2. talk about habits**
  3. talk about facts***

* משהו שחוזר על עצמו **הרגלים *** עובדות

Present Simple regular events

I go to school every day.

These sentences tell about things that happen regularly*.

On Saturdays, I stay at home.

Present Simple habits

I always play in the park.

These sentences tell about habits*.

Sometimes I eat cornflakes for breakfast.

Present Simple Facts

I live in New York.

These sentences tell about facts*.

The girl loves music.

What about the pronouns???

We love pizza.

She loves pizza.

'I' and 'you' are special. Even though they can be singular, the verb does NOT get an 's'.

Pronouns!!!

They look cute.

We stand together.

You point at me.

I swim at the pool.

I smile at everyone.

It roars loudly.

He smiles at the camera.

She wears a uniform.

So when do we add 's' to verb*???

Here are some examples. Can you find the pattern?

Flowers need water.

The dog runs in the park.

A mother loves her children.

Babies cry a lot.

The teacher gives homework.

Kids sleep at night.

When the subject is singular* add an 's' after the verb.

The dog runs in the park.

When the subject is plural* the verb stays the same.

WH Questions?

If you want to ask a specific question - who, what, when, where, why - just add them before the do/does.

Who do you love the most?

What does the dog want?

When does school start?

Where do your parents work?

Why does the sun shine?

The same rule goes for questions with have/has.

There can only be one 's'. In do/does questions ONLY use HAVE.
