LESSONS LEARNED MODULE
The slide to become an independent entrepreneur!
Discovery GOAL: The purpose of this module is to come up with an entrepreneurial idea that is community oriented. To make this work, we encourage young people to start with a community analysis. The community analysis aims to inspire young people with potential business ideas that answer to the needs of the community. (Press to go to this module.) We want the pop-ups to be community oriented because we want to contribute to improving the neighbourhoods in which SYU is active. By making the young people work community oriented, we hope that the young people can also expand their network and anchor themselves better in the community. Talent and skills GOAL: The goal of the ‘Talent and Skills’ module is to help young people to understand the meaning of skills, talents and abilities; to understand why employers value these different areas; and to understand the difference between them. This module also enables young people to develop more self-awareness; to understand themselves better; and to identify their own skills, talents, and abilities. (Press to go to this module.) This module is designed to build confidence, self-efficacy, communication skills and decision-making abilities, which are essential skills for any entrepreneurial journey, and in wider areas of life. The model also links to employability skills and EntreComp competences
Dreaming GOAL: The aim of this module is develop a very first prototype of the service or project the group of young people has in mind, based on the idea that was developed in the discover phase (Press to go to this module.) They translate this idea into a first prototype. This prototype can take various forms, depending on the degree to which the idea can be quickly realized. It can take the form of a "test day", a scale model, an image or storyboard, ...
Pitching GOAL: In the dreaming phase, young people have been working on a prototype of their pop-up business. They might have actually piloted their product/service/activity, or they might have worked on a scale model. The goal of the pitching phase is to present their prototype to a wider audience and get input and feedback. (Press to go to this module.) This wider audience preferably includes neighbourhood residents, members from the community (who have been involved in the community analysis in the Discover Phase)

Designing GOAL: The goal here is to write an initial yet grounded business plan (i.e., a business model canvas) by making use of the information gathered in the previous two phases. The business model canvas comprises nine ‘building blocks’ that together describe the pop-up’s envisioned infrastructure, offerings, customers, and finances. (Press to go to this module.) Filling out a business plan will help students not only to acquire essential financial knowledge but also to analyze, evaluate and (possibly) adapt their business idea. In turn, this might lead to a stronger business model and may help you in making calculated risks.)
Doing GOAL: The goal here is to write an initial yet grounded business plan (i.e., a business model canvas) by making use of the information gathered in the previous two phases. The business model canvas comprises nine ‘building blocks’ that together describe the pop-up’s envisioned infrastructure, offerings, customers, and finances. (Press to go to this module.) In this module you will further elaborate parts of the BMC in order to come up with a clear marketing, communication and financial plan.
Lessons learnt GOAL: In short, the main goal is to make sure they “leave” the project with a clear vision of who they are as an entrepreneur and as a person and what they are capable of, what is their next move? They should also be able to have conversations about their project, their trajectory and present themselves as a professional. We hope in the end the youngsters are more versatile and respond in a more confident way to the ever-changing job market. (Press to go to this module.) In general, at the end of the Lessons Learned module you should be:
- more aware of their professional identity and who they are as a person
- motivated to further explore who they are as a person and as entrepreneur
- more aware of the role and relevance of entrepreneurship in society
- able to present themselves to others and explain who they are as an entrepreneur
