The music video

VIDEO

This video was made in 2009. 3 years after, the song was officially published.

EVENTS IN THE VIDEO

We can see a man in a hospital bed dying, but being kept into life by a song, a marching band on TV, reminding him of a similar event in his childhood

He is then transported into the TV, follows the band until the end of the song, where he gets "kissed goodbye" and he is left alone to his death.

Symbolism

What does everything mean

The majority of the video is black and white, the only colors here being red. Maybe red to symbolize blood, to get back to death, which is the subject of the video in itself?

The lines on their shirts also refers to a skeleton's body, again to get back to death.

The people following the band wear masks: to hide their faces? To show how equal they are?

Because death doesn't discrimate between the sinners and the saints?

Symbolism

Why was he delivered a medal ? To sort of "graduate" him from dying? Does the medal serve as a "proof" that he has passed away?

Would the woman he meets when he gets transported in the death world be some sort of personised death, an allegory? Passing after her, does that mean he gives up on life?

To Finish Off

Some words from Gerard Way, the leader of the band

"I'd like to think that when you die death comes for you however you want, and i feel that it's your strongest memory, either from childhood or adulthood"

Gerard way

THANK YOU for your attention!
