Objectives
- Describe the different dimensions of text information and media.
- Comprehend how text information and media is/are formally and informally produced, organized, and disseminated
- Evaluate the reliability and validity of text information and media and its/their sources using selection criteria.
- Critique sample text-based presentation using design principle and elements.
- Produce and evaluate a creative text-based presentation using design principle and elements.
Baybayin
“Baybayin” is actually a Tagalog word which literally means “to spell”. It is the earliest form of Filipino handwriting.
Two of the most important information revolution is in the history of communication and media are writing and printing text.
Defining Text
Text, when used in information technology is distinct from "non-character encoded data such as graphic images in the form of bitmaps an program code"
According to Rouse (2015), a text is any "human-readable sequence of characters" that can form intelligible words.
Types of Texts
According to Parekh (2006), the textual medium offers an easier and more flexible use in terms of content production, which is why it is ideal for learning. A text may be categorized into three:
Hypertext
Plaintext
Formatted Text
Consisting of fixed sized characters having essentially the same type of appearance
Serve to link different electronic documents and enable users to jump from one the other in a nonlinear way
Appearance can be changed using font parameters
Unformatted Text
Unformatted text, or the plaintext, corresponds to a set of characters in the American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII).
Unicode
This standard "defines a consistent way of encoding multilingual text which enables textual data to be exchanged universally.
