1. Course description
I am doing the pedagogical practice at the Los Libertadores Educational Institution, this school is located in the Municipality of Consaca-Nariño, it is located an hour and a half from the capital of the department, it is a mixed public institution, it provides girls and young people from the Preschool, Basic Primary, and Basic secondary education levels, since August the institution returned to face-to-face and as a technological tool there was a television, but it was damaged, so each teacher carries his laptop or video beam to work better in class. The students of the Los Libertadores Educational Institution are in economic stratification 1 and 2, we are currently in the third period of the 2021 school year, the third-grade students are forty and the fourth-grade students are thirty-five, the class was recorded with the fourth graders, The level of my students is A1, the children like the use of audios, videos, images, songs, and PowerPoint presentations, I can see that these resources motivate them and make them excited.
2. Method
Method
The teaching of English is very present in current education, for the learning of this language it is necessary to work on comprehension and expressions and promote the development of the four fundamental skills for the acquisition of the language, which includes vocabulary, grammar ... But to get to the development of this language there is no single way; Nowadays you can observe different methods that are used individually or in combination, some of them are: grammar/translation method, direct method, lingual audio method, among others. In general, the learning methods and strategies have the same objective, which is to help students acquire knowledge, skills, and competencies to improve their academic level. The method proposed in class is lingual audio.
Audio lingual method
The audio-lingual method is a method used in the teaching of foreign languages. It is based on the behaviorist theory, which postulates that certain traits of living beings, and in this case humans, could be trained through a reinforcement system. The objectives of this method are to develop oral communication, promote the development of skills, have a high level of pronunciation, fluency in conversations, and master the language as a native speaker. “These immediate objectives imply three others: first, control of the structures of sound, form, and order in the new language; second, acquaintance with vocabulary items that bring content into these structures; and third, meaning, in terms of the significance these verbal symbols have for those who speak the language natively” (Brooks 1964: 113).
"A radical transformation is called for, a new orientation of procedures is demanded, and a thorough house cleaning of methods, materials, texts, and tests is unavoidable" (Brooks 964: 50). It is essential to use materials that allow this method to be applied, such as audios, videos, flashcards, audios, and listening exercises, which allow students to associate correctly, either with images or words. In the classroom, two activities were used: Repetition: the student repeats an utterance as soon as hears it, he repeated the adjectives several times in English, first with the images and then with the words. Replacement: one word is replaced by another, seven adjectives were written on the board and the students went out to write a synonym for each adjective.
