LINKING WORDS

Linking words or connectors

- They are words or phrases that link ideas, phrases, sentences, and paragraphs together. - They are used to combine two clauses or sentences.

Linking words can be used to:

Addition: plus, besides, as well as, in addition, moreover, furthermore

The basic connectors are: AND (y), BUT (pero), BECAUSE (porque), OR (o, ni), SO (así que, entonces), AS (mientras, cuando, como, ya que). Linking words show:

Reason or cause: - because, as, since, for - because of, due to, owing to + noun

Result/consequence: As a consequence, Consequently, As a result, For this reason, Therefore, So, Thus/ Hence

Contrast: but, yet, however, although, despite, in spite of

When WhileUntil

Purpose: to, for, in order to, so as to

Used to EXPRESS CONTRAST

Used to show a result
