Styles map

There are many different styles developed in the American continent. We will divide them into two groups. Latin american music and USA's music.Most music genres are associated with a specific dance and it is very strong in latin music.

Pandeiro

Similar to a tambourine it is very popular in Brazil.

conga

It is originaly from Cuba. It is an instrument played all around the world.

Güiro/Güira

This instuments is handheld originaly from Cuba. It can be made of metal (güira) or wood (güiro).

timbale

Has a resemblance to a Conga, as if they were two small Congas.

maracas

It's original from several countries like Venezuela or Puerto Rico. It is played all over the world.

Clave

It is very common in Cuban music.

El tres

It is usually played in the Caribbean islands. It is a fusion between the guitar and the bandurria.

Marimba

It's believed that it was created by the Mayan civilization.

Bombo Leguero

Instrment from Argentina similar to a drum or a valencian "tabalet".

Antara

It's origin is the ancient civilizations from Perú. Also called pan flute.

Bongo Drums

It's origin is afro-cuban.

marímbula

Typical from the Dominican Republic. It has a resemblance to the mbira.

Berimbau

It is original from Africa but it's become very popular in brazilian music, specually in capoeira.

agogo

It is made of a pair of bells first used in west Africa. It became very popular in Brazil.

BANJO

It was introduced by african slaves nad was developed to its actual form in the USA.

Appalachian Dulcimer

played in the Appalachian region of the United States. The origins of the instrument are unknown.

Kazoo

Wind instrument invented by and afro-american around 1840.

Washboard

It's an evolution of the washboards used to clean clothes.
