Biography
Romero Britto was born the 6th of October, 1963, (he is 58 years) in Pernambuco, Brazil. His parents are Rosemiro and Lourdes Britto, and his siblings are: Baltemar, Roberta and Robson Britto. He is is known as a painter, a serygraph (print maker) and a sculptor.
How did he started and influences
At the age of 8 he started to paint on cardboard and in newspaper sheets. When he was 14 he held a public display where he first sold one of his works of art. Then, in 1983, he moved to Paris, where he discovered works of Picasso and Henri Matisse. In 1988 he was selected (along with Andy Warhol and Keith Haring) for Absolut Vodka’s artist showcase and in 1989 he moved to Miami, Florida, USA and set up a studio in Coconut Grove.
Description of color, techniques, inspiration.
Romero Britto ´s style is described as providing warmth and evoking a spirit of hope, which is in fact his main focus. With bright colors and playful themes, his works is childlike. He combines elements of stereotypical cubism, folk art and grafitti in his work, using bright colors and adventerous motifs as a visual expression of hope anf happiness.
Where can we find their work?
The artist has his own gallery in Sao Paulo, opened in 2011, which brings together collectible works and art objects. Nader Museum of Latin American Art (NAMLA) in Miami "Portraits", an exhibition of forty works featuring personalities such as Pablo Picasso, Albert Einstein, Muhammad Ali, Sophia Loren and María Calas.
Interesting facts
Cubist and pop art styles: From Cubism, he extracts the deformation of the human or animal anatomy, and from Pop Art, the bright colours and powerful messages. His works are named by collectors and admirers as "the art of healing." The characters included in Romero Britto's works, even the animals, always smile to convey a feeling of joy and positivity.
