Bessemer Process

The Bessemer process maybe one of the greatest inventions of its time. The Bessemer process was made in 1856 by Henry Bessemer. The Bessemer process allowed steel to be used easily at a very cheap price. It was later replaced by the Open-hearth Process. It helped create strong steel used for railroad tracks, steel machines, and buildings such as skyscrapers.

The Bessemer Process was not only just an effective process, it was also very fast.

Theses are the details of the Bessemer Process.

How the Bessemer Process worked

We start off by putting pig iron or wrought iron into a Bessemer furnace, also know as a blast furnace. Under the furnace air is blown up and as the air travels there are flames that heat the air to extreme temperatures. This hot air will take out the impurities of the iron leaving the needed amount of iron in steel. This process would be cheaper than using or buying fuel.

About Henry Bessemer and the Bessemer Process

Henry Bessemer was a English inventor who was born in january, 1898. He was a very big contributor to the sucess of the Industrial Revolution. How he did this is by creating the Bessemer process(Along with fellow inventor William Kelly). The Bessemer Process was used to manufacture steel in mass amounts for a cheap price. The bessemer Process was also insanely fast. Compared to other processes it was 680 minutes faster than other steel making processes. This changed The Industrial Revolution because it helped make skyscrapers and other big construction projects by providing mass amount of steel.

How it changed the Industrial Revolution

1. It made steel producing faster, effective, cheaper, and more useful. 2. It masses produced and was quicker than all of the other processes by 680 minutes 3. Its steel was sturdy and good for building machines and buildings. 4. Allowed steel to be made without fuel

Conclusion

In conclusion we learned that the Bessemer Process was a steel making machine that was highly effiecent and was made in 1856 by Henry Bessemer. We also learned how it worked. It worked by taking imputrities out of the iron and made steel. The Bessemer Process greatly helped the making of many things that used steel such as skyscrapers and water wheels.
