When do you use it?

For completed actions in the past, past habits, and things true in the past.

Positive Sentences:

IYou We They + verb He She It

1) I played Plants Vs. Zombies when I was young. 2) You visited your grandma every weekend before.

Negative Sentences:

IYou We They + didn't He + verb She It

1) They didn't work in a restaurant before. 2) My dog didn't eat its food.

Remember!

Use the verbs in past tense!

There are regular and irregular verbs

Regular verbs:

- Add "ed" at the end of the word.

Examples:work - worked listen - listened walk - walked play - played

Regular verbs:

- Only add "d" if the last letter of the word is "e".

Examples:like - liked hate - hated arrive - arrived close - closed

Regular verbs:

- For a consonant and the letter "y", remove "y" and add "ied"

Examples:study - studied bury - buried carry - carried dry - dried

Regular verbs:

- For a consonant , vowel, and consonant double the last letter and add "ed"

Examples:stop - stopped hop - hopped rob - robbed shop - shopped

Irregular verbs:

- Some verbs have a different spelling in the past tense.

Examples:go - went write - wrote run - ran eat - ate fall - fell swim - swam see - saw read - read sing - sang

Was and Were

Was = past tense of "is"Were = past tense of "are"

Examples:1) Today there is 1 dog. Yesterday there was 1 cat. 2) Today there are 3 kids. Yesterday there were 5 kids.
