START

THE FIRST THEORY OF THE ATOM

DEMOCRITO

This men who was a philosopher of ancient greece and developing the atomistic theorhy during the years (460-370 b.c)

Dalton's Atomoic Model

This is the first atomic model proposed whit scientific bases in 1804-1808

FEATURES:

  • It has atoms that are indivisible and can't be destroyed
  • The atoms of the same elements are equal to each other
  • You can combine the atoms of the other elements
  • It has negative charges inside
This atomic model indicates that all matter is composed of atoms

ATOMIC MODEL DALTON

DISCOVERY OF THE ELECTRON

IN 1897 the discovery of the electron by Jhon Thomson was annunced.Discovered that is was lighter than hydrogen and had a negative charge.

THOMSON'S ATOMIC MODEL

The thomson's atomic model was a theory proposed in 1904 by thomson himself

FEATURES:

  • It has a negative charges incrustated in the atom, as a raisin pudding.
  • The atom had a positive charger.
  • it has a electrons evenly distributed within the atom

Rutherford's Atomic Model

Rutherford's atomic model and theory was published in 1911

  • It is divided in two parts
  • It has a nucleus with a positive atomic charges
  • It has orbitals with a electrons passing over the atom

FEATURES:

BOHR'S ATOMIC MODEL

Bohr's atomic model was published in 1913. Used it to explain orbitals

features:

  • It has a different electronic configurations where electrons move to orbit
  • It has a circular orbits that are divided into different levels
  • It has a nucleus with a positive and neutral atomic charges

SOMMERFELD'S ATOMIC MODEL

The sommerfelds atomic model is an extension of the bhor model developed in 1916.

Features:

  • It has waves that rotate elliptically
  • It has sublevels of energy
  • It has a tiny electric current

DISCOVERY OF THE PROTON

In the 1889 Eugen goldstein discovered the anodic rays and showed that they were particles whit positive chargers produced by gases. After time Rutherford conducted an experiment bombarding alpha particles into pure nitrogen gas, determined that a hydrogen nucleus disintegrated under the impact of the alpha particle, forming an oxygen atom in the process. The nucleus of hydrogen is an elementary particle and Rutherford called a proton in 1919.

EUGEN GOLSTEIN RUTHERFORD

Discovery of the neutron

In 1932 the physicist James Chadwikck discovered the neutron

James Chadwick mixed beryllium with a little polonium and place them inside a vacuum chamber. The alpha rays emitted by polonium when colliding with the beryllium atoms generated neutral and heavy rays, he called the heavy particles neutrons.
