Sport apnea
extreme sport
What is sports apnea?
It is an extreme sport, a type of free lung diving that is based on the voluntary suspension of breath in the water while traveling long distances or descending to great depths.
What is the basic equipment?
- visor or diving goggles
- snorkel
- fins
- wetsuits
- Ballast belt
Features
- It is recommended to be accompanied by a professional or someone with some experience.
- Before going directly to the descents, you must learn to maintain a state of relaxation in the water, the objective of this is to reduce your heart and respiratory rate, to regulate oxygen consumption and, thus, reduce energy expenditure by up to 30% less .
- All professional freedivers train with long-time descents, but before this they had to go through a series of intense anaerobic workouts that prepared their body to withstand high levels of carbon dioxide (CO2), the increase in CO2 in the blood produces the desire to breathe.
- Another vital point is to learn to compensate the ears, in order to avoid forcing said compensation, therefore, the different methods to do it should be studied
Risks
1. Hypoxic accidents, especially in the ascent, since during the last meters of ascent the total pressure decreases rapidly and with it the partial pressure of oxygen, which can lead to a loss of consciousness.2. Emersion or exit from the water, here a minimum desperation to breathe can lead to fainting. Since the first thing a freediver does is expel the oxygen contained in his lungs to make room for pure oxygen.
