DISPOSAL OF WASTE
The collection, proessing, and recycling or deposition of the waste materials of human society
types of waste
- Solid waste ( such as garbage or discarded food
- Hazardous waste
- Wastewater such as sewage which contains bodily wastes (feces or urine)
- Surface runoff
- Radioactive waste and others
WHAT IS WASTE?
Waste are unwanted or unusable materials. Waste are any substance which is discarded after primary use, or is worthless, defective and of no use
SOURCES OF WASTE/GARBAGE
Industrial waste is the waste produed by industrial activity which includes any material that is rendered useless during manufacturing process
Agriculture waste is waste produced as a result of various agricultural operations
- Industrial Waste
- Agricultural Waste
- Hazardous Waste
- Medical Waste
- Radioactive Waste
Medical waste is any waste matter produced from hospitals, laboratory, dentist and any other health related practice
Hazardous wastes are those that may contain toxic substances generated from industrial, hospital, some types of household wastes
Radioactive (or nuclear) waste is a byproduct from nuclear reactors, fuel processing plants, hospitals and research facilities
Reasons for huge production of Garbage
1. Population Explosion: Increased population always lead to increased production of decomposable food waste.
2. Improvement in Lifestyle: Higher amounts of wastes are produced due to improvement in lifestyle
3. Change in attitude: Improved lifestyle, sometimes, also changes the attitude in such a way that more and more things become disposable.
4. Changes in packaging: Most of the packaging materials used now-a-days of the household articles are non-biodegradable leading to hazardous garbage generation.
Effect of Garbage
Dirty surroundings.
Breeding grounds of flies, rats and mosquitoes.
Spreading of various water borne diseases like cholera, diarrhoea and dysentery.
Blockage of flow of water in the drains.
How to Prevent/control pollution
2. Making use of biodegradable products as much as we can.
1. Recycling of certain waste products like plastic and paper.
4. Making the compost of biodegradable wastes by buring them under soil.
3. Seperation of biodegradable and non-biodegradable wastes during disposal.
Thanks!
