WHat was the title given to the ruler?
MAYA:The Maya had their leader being Halach Uinic meaning “real man” who was considered a god like being.
Taino: The rulers of the Taino, “Cacique” was a hereditary title passed from father to son, If the cacique had no heir the title was passed to the eldest son of his eldest sister.
Kalinago: The Kalinago had no political organization as the Arawak's (Taino's) with their caciques. The rulers of the Kalinago, “Ouboutou” (commander-in-chief) were chosen by the previous ouboutou. below the oboutou was the tiubultuli hauthe and was the village head.
HOW THE RULER WAS CHOSEN
Maya: 1) The Maya rulers were chosen hereditary.
Taino: 1) The Taino rulers were chosen hereditary. 2) If there is no heir , the title is passed to the eldest son of his eldest sister.
Kalinago: 1) The kalinago rulers were chosen based on their warrior skills.

KALINAGO:
1) There were other leaders who possessed special spiritual and healing abilities and were given special responsibilities. 2) The Oboutou reserves the right to request the appointment of persons that he considers suitable to serve as advisers to the Council. 3) He is presided over feasts and is able to have several women. 4) When training women were responsible of grooming them and giving them food
MAYA :
1) They had the privilege to rule over the religious rituals that took place. 2) Special boats were built for them 3) They recieved the best food 4) They received the best crops
TAINO:
1) The cacique was the social, political, economic, military, and religious leader.2) He received better food than the other members of the community as they gave him their best products from the land, sea and rivers.

The duties of each Ruler
1) The ruler was responsible for economic, political and military leadership. 2)They planned the raids, chose the captains and distributed prizes.
MAYA:
1) Responsible for the day to day political management of the society. 2) Finding Methods of getting revenue for the government. 3) Finding ways of maintaing respect for law and legal desscisions and the regulation of trade
TAINO:
1) The cacique dealt with the distribution of land, the ordering of labor on the land and the planting and distributing of the crops. 2) He made decisions of peace and war and was the leader in war.
Were women allowed to be rulers in those communities?
Maya:women on the Maya were allowed to be rulers due to the shifts in roles they played in the 7th and 8th century and the lack of male heir. Taino: Women in the Taino were rulers in some cases but most of the time they were wives of the male cacique. Kalinago:Women were not allowed to be rulers because the Kalinago believed that women were soft and weak thus making them useless during wars and raids.
