APPLY NOW

I am delighted that you are considering Kingsmead Sixth Form to continue your post-16 education. Our Sixth Form is one that is thriving, and rapidly growing in numbers and the reasons are clear to see. We are able to boast an average A-Level grade of a ‘A-’, an average vocational grade of a ‘Distinction*-’ and a 100% pass rate in all subjects that we offer. In the latest externally formally assessed examinations in January 2021, over 50% of our students achieved the highest grade possible; a Distinction. These examinations were marked externally, by exam boards. Our course offer includes 29 academic and vocational courses that span a wide range of learning styles. They include both traditional, academic subjects such as English Literature, Mathematics and the Sciences but also pioneering courses such as Animal Management, Criminology and Law. Kingsmead Sixth Form really is an exciting place to work and learn. Mr M. Russell - Director of Sixth Form

KINGSMEAD SCHOOL SIXTH FORM PROSPECTUS 2022 - 2023

We have a broad and diverse range of subjects available for you to study at Kingsmead Sixth Form and we really do have courses for all walks of life. Most students will choose to start with 3 subjects, which is the minimum number required to be a member of Kingsmead Sixth Form. This does not include any EPQs or GCSE resits – these are done in addition to your 3 chosen subjects. Students may start with 4 subjects, with valid reasons, but they would look to reduce this to concentrate on their 3 main subjects as soon as possible. A-Level subjects are generally seen as the more ‘traditional’ subjects such as Mathematics or Physics. Vocational subjects are the more modern courses such as Animal Management or Creative Digital Media Production. All courses at Kingsmead carry UCAS points which is the point system used by all universities and most apprenticeships in the UK. For more information please use the links on the right of this page.

The Lyceum Society – our provision for supporting the most-able students with the aspirations of attending Cambridge, Oxford or a Russell Group university – led by Mr Morton-Banner. Around 2380 years ago, Aristotle created a school designed to educate the brightest and best minds in Greece for one purpose and one purpose alone, to become future leaders of the world. He called it the Lyceum. At Kingsmead, we have created our own Lyceum Society, and mirror Aristotle's vision of educating students to follow their dreams. Our Lyceum Society makes that a reality by raising aspirations and offering students the opportunities needed for them to be successful.

The Lyceum Society has one key purpose which is to create opportunities to allow students to attend the best universities in the country. The programme begins at the start of Year 12 and students will graduate in Year 13. During the programme, students will visit Russell Group universities allowing them to experience their potential future path.Bespoke workshops are held involving in-depth sessions on writing personal statements to Oxbridge standard, interview training and more. Additionally, we support students in applying for 'blue chip' work experience (nearly all companies are part of the fortune 500) to give them the experience that will make their applications successful. The skills developed (critical thinking, logic, in-depth subject knowledge etc.) create the foundations for our students to not just succeed, but excel in their post 18 journeys.

The Sixth Form Centre is the heart of our vibrant, popular and successful Sixth Form. It is a self-contained area with distinct work and social areas. It boasts 50 computers, 3 workrooms, WiFi and a built-in kitchen area. It is set up in a way that has a university feel to it, rather than that of a school. Within the Sixth Form Centre you are able to work independently or in groups, using the large whiteboards on the wall. There is a study support area known as “Cav’s Corner” where you have access to past examination papers, marks schemes and examiners’ reports, teachers’ timetables, revision cards, folders, dividers, plastic wallets, highlighters etc… everything you could need to be successful! The Sixth Form Office is located in the Sixth Form Centre and it is here where you will find the Sixth Form Team. The door is always open so if you have a quick question or something bigger to discuss, you can do this in a safe and secure environment.

In September 2021 we launched our very own in-house catering service. Under the leadership of our Executive Chef Chris Morgan, the Kingsmead Catering Team deliver a menu made entirely on site from fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Students can choose to use either of our restaurants - our rebranded canteen, the House of Pi, or our Glasshouse restaurant, which is brand new for 2021. But that's not all: Chef also works with students to help educate them in all things food related, ensuring that students are well aware of the importance of a healthy diet and how it can aid their education.
