These time management tips can help you balance your time, set your priorities, and establish a confident cycle of work time versus personal time.
Try different strategies out to see which one works best for you.
2. Pomodoro Technique
The Pomodoro Technique uses 25 minute work sessions and 5 minute breaks to keep you on track and productive.
Choose a task you need to get done and set a timer (typically for 25 mins).
Focus on the task for that full time. Then, when the timer rings, take a short 3-5 min break and do something else to give your brain a break.
Repeat and either continue working on the existing task or move on to a new one.
The Pomodoro Technique was created by entrepreneur Francesco Cirillo and named after the tomato-shaped timer that the he owned.
3. Rule of 3
The Rule of 3 helps condense long to do-lists to focused tasks that make the biggest impact.
Make a list of all the things you need to get done. Now look at the list and ask yourself what one item will make the biggest impact on your goals.
What will make the second and third biggest impact?
Focus on accomplishing those three items to get the most out of your time.
If you could only do one thing on your to-do list all day, which one activity would contribute the greatest value to your goals?
4. Eat the Frog
The Eat the Frog strategy focuses on completing those tasks that you dislike the most.
Once the tasks that you don't care for are out of the way, you're naturally more productive and motivated and less likely to procrastinate.
Create a list of things you need to do. The most important items are probably the most difficult. These are your frogs.
Tackle the least attractive of your tasks. Repeat this each day and you'll continually be moving towards your goal.
“Eat a live frog first thing in the morning and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day.”~Mark Twain
5. Pickle Jar Theory
The Pickle Jar Theory is based on the idea we only have a certain amount of time to get work done.Your day is made up of sand, pebbles, and rocks. Sand symbolises distracting elements like phone calls, text messages, emails, and social media. Pebbles represent tasks that need to be done but could be delegated or put off until later. And rocks are your most important tasks that need to get done today.
They key to this strategy is to determine the rocks to make sure you're prioritising what's most important.
