Definition
• Connectivism is a relatively new learning theory. • It is a learning theory for the Digital Age. • It also promotes group collaboration and discussion. • One example: virtual education. (Western Gobernos University, 2017).
Characteristics
-Connectivism provides the learning skills and tasks that are necessary for learners to grow in a digital age. -Learning and knowledge depend on a diversity of opinions. -Learning can reside in non-human devices, in other words... technology. -It is intended to be constantly updated to improve learning. -Personal knowledge is composed of a network, providing new learning for individuals.
Roles
& Student's role-The student is the center of learning. -Autonomy -Collaborative work among students. -Feedback between students. &Teacher's role -The teacher is the one who accompanies the teaching-learning process. -Teach how to discover and organize information efficiently. -The teacher will introduce the working tools, raise doubts and develop the necessary skills for the student (Vila, s. f.).
Advantages
-They promote autonomy. -It is a theory that is based on reality. -Tools are used to update the information. -Learning is collective. -Learning is free, flexible and structured.
Disadvantages
-Information is not always reliable. -Not all students have access to these types of devices. -Excess use of copy and paste. -A new teaching methodology is needed that designs learning environments. -Difficult to guarantee the availability, quality and correctness of the information necessary to form the connections.
