Darwin, Australia

Paragraphs 1/2

Ever heard of the Cyclone Tracy? It is a Cyclone that Appeared in Darwin from 24 - 26 December, 1974. The Cyclone has killed 71 people and devastated 80% of the city. Many people say that Darwin have died after this, because most of the population has left the city. Cyclone Tracy wasn't the only natural disaster that occurred in Darwin. A huge tsunami also destroyed their city on January 29, 1899. There was a shock of an earthquake, too. Coming back to Cyclones, Tracy wasn't the only Cyclone in Darwin. We have Cyclone Marcus, Thelma, Carlos. The strongest Cyclone that we have listed is Cyclone Carlos, which happened recently, actually. It was on June 10 - June 17, 2015. Darwin experienced flood as a result of Cyclone Carlos. Although these natural disasters destroy the city eachtime, Darwin gets to create amazing tourist attractions. For example, we have the Deckchair Cinema, which is a small garden area that streams movies. Another activity is called the United Paintball Darwin, which people target others with paintballs in a forest area.

Darwin is the capital and chief port of the Northern Territory, in Australia. It is situated on a low peninsula northeast of the entrance to its harbor. The harbour was found in 1839 by John Stokes, a surveyor aboard the ship HMS Beagle and was named for the British naturalist Charles Darwin. The city has an estimated population of over 140,000 people, which accounts for 0.60% of Australia's population. Darwin is the least populated capital city in Australia. It has a tropical savanna climate with distinct wet and dry seasons and the average maximum temperature is similar all year round. The Darwin series consists of very deep, poorly and very poorly drained, very slowly permeable soils formed in clayey alluvium on flood plains of large streams. It is approximately 1,000 miles (1,600 km) from north to south and 600 miles (970 km) from east to west and occupies more than one-sixth of the Australian landmass.
