You've been abducted by aliens!
They find you fascinating and want to keep you forever as one of their own. Clearly, this is not an acceptable fate for you. Your mission is to get back to Earth!
Click on ship to begin.
Before you get a chance to run, you realize....

The aliens have locked you in their cargo bay. Click on the PhET screen to try to escape.
I'm Ditto! I am the ONLY alien on this ship who wants to see you get back to Earth! Click on me for help and information throughout this mission! Don't let the others know I'm helping you! You are currently in the storage bay. To get out, you must answer questions about the PhET simulation. Click on the PhET logo in the middle of the page to get started. The PhET logo looks like this. Note: It may take a moment for the simulation to load. Sometimes the internet on our ship is a bit slow!

Map of Ship
AUTOPILOTON
You walk into the empty control room. The aliens are all celebrating your capture in a different room and have the ship on autopilot. You notice a screen labeled "Map of Ship." Perhaps seeing the map can be useful to you!

One peak passes by the red dot per second. This measurement is the wave's frequency! The units are cycles per second, which is the same thing as Hertz.
Frequency is a measure of how many waves pass a point in a certain amount of time.

This wave's frequency = 1 cycle/second = 1 Hertz

Information about amplitude, pitch, and frequency

As the amplitude of a sound wave increases, it becomes louder. The sound waves from a megaphone have a much greater amplitude than the sound waves from a mouse. As the frequency of a sound wave increases, its pitch increases. The sound waves from a violin or flute have a much higher frequency than the sound waves from a base or tuba.

Information about amplitude, pitch, and frequency
As the amplitude of a sound wave increases, it becomes louder. The sound waves from a megaphone have a much greater amplitude than the sound waves from a mouse. Note: Changing the amplitude/loudness of a sound wave does not affect its pitch or frequency. As the frequency of a sound wave increases, its pitch increases. The sound waves from a violin or flute have a much higher frequency than the sound waves from a base or tuba. Note: Changing the frequency/pitch of a sound wave does not affect how loud it is.
