Introduction
WebQuest
Sade watched the neat lines of her handwriting crumple as Marcia squashed the pages into a tight ball. Marcia bounced it up in the air a couple of times before flinging it away carelessly onto the tarmac. Sade’s eyes tingled and she fought to hold back her tears. That’s what they were waiting for. Bending down she fiddled with the clips of her rucksack.“Lost your tongue, have you? Well, you better keep it lost. I haven’t finished with you yet. D’you hear?” When reading our book ”The Other Side of Truth”, did you recognise this scene as an instance of bullying?Discrimination and bullying make regular appearances on Sade’s journey and provide a glimpse into the harsh reality of what many refugees face. This kind of unfair treatment can happen to anyone and it can take on many different forms, some more or less obvious than others. It is not always easy to identify discrimination for what it is, especially if you are unfamiliar with the various ways it can be expressed with. The aim of this WebQuest is for you to find out what forms of discrimination there are and how you can recognise them. What effect does it have on its victims? And how can you help targets of this unjustified discrimination? Watch the following video to get a first insight into the issue of bullying. This will provide you with a great start to your first activity!
