You can even find reading groups online if you can’t make it out.

34% of those surveyed would choose a physical activity as a hobby above anything else, whether it’s going for a walk, taking to the pool for a swim or dancing like nobody’s watching. If you’re looking to get active, why not search for your nearest parkrun online? These free 5km events are held every Saturday morning in locations across the UK and are open to walkers, joggers and runners of every age and ability.

Our survey revealed that 18% of people prefer pastimes that get their creative juices flowing, like painting, knitting and singing to their heart’s content. If you like to sing for pleasure, why not join a local choir? Singing is a great way to relieve stress and you don't need to have lots of experience or to have reached a certain standard to participate in many singing groups.

Being part of something bigger is important for some of our respondents, with 5% of people choosing to take part in community-oriented activities in their spare time, such as volunteering and joining book clubs. Volunteering is a great way to gain confidence, develop new skills and really make a difference. From word searches, to Sudoku, to starting a new book, you’re best suited to intellectual hobbies that you can enjoy from the comfort of your own home. If you’d like to stay social, you could join an online community, or even invite your friends over to take part in your hobby together. These sort of pastimes aren’t just challenging, but they’re budget friendly too.
To satisfy your need to socialise, a community-based hobby could be ideal for you, such as volunteering. Not only will this give you the perfect opportunity to help others and meet new people, but it can be done on any budget and within your local area too.
Active hobbies are for you, whether you decide to go for a run, swim or walk. This also gives you the chance to get outside, and you can choose whether you'd prefer to get active by yourself on a solo jog or you could even decide to join a fitness group of like-minded people.
As a creative soul, hobbies such as knitting, crocheting and painting are the perfect fit for you. If you are willing to travel to adopt a new pastime, you could even try your hand at acting or singing as part of a local performing arts group.
