Chapter 9
Summary
Summary
Finn begins to narrate to Maia and Clovis about Westwood. Westwood was a large country house which had belonged to the Taverners since the time of the crusades. The head of the family was Sir Aubrey Taverner and Finn’s father, Bernard was last of Sir Aubrey’s children. His mother passed away as soon as he was born and Bernard went on to have a difficult childhood owing to his fears and phobias. The only things he was not afraid of were insects and animals and the like and soon he realised that he would grow up and become a naturalist.
Chapter 10
Summary
The chapter begins at the Manaus Museum of Natural History where Professor Glastonberry is struggling with a false rib bone of a giant sloth exhibit. Maia and Miss Minton join him and after hearing his dilemma, Miss Minton suggests that he go and find the missing bone. Professor brushes aside the preposterous suggestion and Maia goes to him to give him a message from Finn (the real reason that brought her to the museum in the first place). Finn wants the professor to hide Clovis inside the museum and the professor shows Maia the hiding place- a trapdoor in his lab which leads to a cellar.
