During the 1950s, Chelsea Football Club won their first trophy, the league title (in 1955). This was the first of many trophies in their history.

By now, Chelsea were almost at the end of their exsistance, when Ken Bates bought the club and saved the club. From then, they were a Second Division team many times.

Chelsea were thrown a lifeline by Ken Bates when he bought the club in 1982. Chelsea then overcome relegation, promotion, and relegation again and almost third-tier relegation, before promotion.
