SECOND

CONDITIONAL

We use it to talk about impossible or very unlikely hypothetical situations in the present or future and their consequences

structure formation

Would,Could, Might

SIMPLE PAST

main clause result

if, clause condition

if I had a better salary, I could travel more

IMPOSSIBLE SITUATION

IF I WERE RICH, I WOULD BUY A BIG HOUSE BY THE SEA.

UNLIKELY SITUATION

IF MY NEW PHONE STOPPED WORKING TOMORROW, I´D TAKE IT BACK TO THE STORE

IF I HAD MORE FREE TIME, I COULD TRAVEL MORE OFTEN

IF MY PARENTS HAD A NEW HOUSE, WE WOULD LIVE THERE

You can change the position the clauses (main clause=result + if clause=condition)

WE DON´T USE A COMMA

I WOULD BUY A YATCH IF I WON THE LOTTERY

We can also use COULD or MIGHT to say that something would be possible

LOOK!

If we lived by the sea, we could go swimming every day

With the verb TO BE, we often use WERE instead of WAS in the IF clause with the pronouns I, HE , SHE, IT.

If Adam were here, he would fix your computer

Use this phrase to give advice

If I were you...

If I were you, I´d take a cab to the airport

Don´t use WOULD in the IF clause

Second conditional or First Conditional?

We use FIRST CONDITIONAL when we think a future event is likely. We use SECOND CONDITIONAL when we think a future event is less likely.

If it rains tomorrow, we´ll go shopping. If it rained tomorrow, we´d go shopping.

Visual content is a cross-cultural and universal language, just like music. We are able to understand images from millions of years ago, even from other cultures. We don't like to bore. We don't want to be repetitive. We do it differently. We sabotage boredom. We create what the brain enjoys consuming because it stimulates it.
