Greek society

An important part of Greek life took place outdoors because the Greeks felt that community activities were more important than life at home. The Greeks were *POLYTHEISTS and believe that their gods had a strong influence on their destiny.

In the markets and squares around the polis, many different activities were carried out, such preparing beautiful vases, selling a range of products..

Greek education

Education in Ancient Greece was no easy task. While their mothers taught the girls at home, the boys attended school, where they studied different disciplines. Their education varied depending on the polis. In all the cities, except in Sparta, the girls did not receive education. They were taught at home by their mothers.

WOMEN IN THE ANCIENT GREEK SOCIETY

Female citizens had few rights in comparison to male citizens. Unable to vote, own land, or inherit, a woman's place was in the home and her purpose in life was the rearing of children. Spartan women were treated somewhat differently than in other states, for example, they had to do physical training (nude) like men, were permitted to own land, and could drink wine.
