We want to focus on the thing or person that is acted upon. The object becomes the subject.

When writing a sentence from an active voice to a passive voice, the verb to be in the passive voice is in the same tense than in the active form.

Why using the passive voice instead of the active voice ?

To keep the focus on the object

To stay/appear objective, scientific, technical or logical (report).

Her clothes were soaked, suitcase was broken and her neck, severed.
