LET'S GET GOING >>>

GENERAL OVERVIEW + PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE

PART ONE : THE BEGINNING OF EVERYTHING

GENERAL OVERVIEW

1. The meaning of Al-ShahÉdah: An Islamic oath, one of the Five Pillars of Islam and part of the Adhan. It reads: "I bear witness that none deserves worship except God, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the messenger of God." 2. The meaning of a Muslim: people who follow or practice Islam, a monotheistic Abrahamic religion. The derivation of "Muslim" is from an Arabic word meaning "submitter (to God)". 3. The meaning of a KÉfir: Refers to a person who disbelieves in God as per Islam, or denies the authority of God, or rejects the tenets of Islam.

THE PURPOSE / OBJECTIVE

  1. The concept of Shahadah
  2. Study the concept of a Muslim and a KafIR
  3. Understand the importance of knowing about the differences between a Muslim and a Kafir.
  4. Realize the existence of Shahadah being a demarcation line between a Muslim and a Kafir.

THE CONCEPT OF SHAHADAH

FIRST AND FOREMOST >>>

THE CONCEPT OF SHAHADAH

Shahadah is the promise of someone willing to become a Muslim. This is because, as a Muslim, it is necessary to acknowledge and recognize that Allah SWT is the only God to be worshipped and the Prophet Muhammad is the only Messenger to be followed. Hence, it is illegal to be Muslim without such confession. When becoming a Muslim, one is obligated to obey all the commandments and prohibitions of Allah and the Messenger.

Many people misunderstand the concept of shahadah until think that the word of the shahadah is merely a pronouncement.

This study is aimed to find out the concept of two kalima shahadah according to the Quran and al-Hadith.

أشهد أن لا إله إلاَّ الله

The main purpose behind the utterance is that he believes in his heart That there is no god worshipped, but only Allah SWT alone (al-‘Uthaimin 1413H).

The first Expression of claim is the word tawhid. This word of the tawhid Has two pillars The combination of the nafi element and ithbat results in a pure tawhid meaning compared To mere ithbat

  1. The first pillar is the Nafi which denies that there is no God who is Worthy to be Worshipped
  2. The second pillar is to establish or confirm (ithbat) that only Allah is Entitled to be Worshipped

و أشهد أن محمد رسول الله

Shahadah risalah which is confident with all the heart that Prophet Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. Without this belief, one is not worthy to be called a Muslim although he believes Allah as his god (Damiriyyah 1999).

The testimony of this section is not perfect if one does not meet the four conditions (Abdullah 2003).

  1. To justify everything that the Prophet (PBUH) said must be convinced and justify any message or news that the Prophet (PBUH) conveyed even if the authentic news or message came to an extent logical or unreasonable in the human mind.
  2. Is to obey all the instructions of the Prophet. This is because it is inadequate to believe that the Prophet (PBUH) was Allah's messenger unless it was proven in the form of obedience to his teachings by performing his instructions and prohibitions.
  3. To avoid all the prohibitions of the Prophet Muhammad. who are obedient to Allah and His Messenger are not limited to doing what Allah and His Messenger have commanded, but it also includes adherence if one leaves matters prohibited Allah and His Messenger
  4. Is true by carrying out the claims of the word tawhid that has been said in everyday life.

The concept of a Muslim and a Kafir

SECONDLY WE ENTER >>>

A MUSLIM

  • “Muslim” is an Arabic word meaning “one who submits to God”.
  • A Muslim, also spelled Moslem, is an adherent of Islam, a monotheistic Abrahamic religion based on the Qur’an
  • Most Muslims accept as a Muslim anyone who has publicly pronounced the Shahadah which states, “I testify that there is no god except for the God, and I testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of God.”

The beliefs of Muslims include: that God (Arabic: الله‎ Allah) is eternal, transcendent and one (tawhid); that God is incomparable, self-sustaining and neither begets nor was begotten; that Islam is the complete and universal version of a primordial faith that has been revealed before through many prophets

Muslims maintain that previous messages and revelations have been partially changed or corrupted over time, but consider the Qur'an to be both unaltered and the final revelation from God—Final Testament.

A Kafir

An odious word and means a conceited person whose haughtiness makes him an ingrate rebel against God, a rebel against his benefactors, one who is steeped in self-glory, and self-gratification.

It makes him an enemy of the prophets, the good people, and of God. A Kafir fights for evil causes spread mischief and disorder and is a high-handed oppressor.

The Quran does not describe the disbelievers as Kafir in any verse of the Quran nor did the early Muslims have such an understanding which is why the Muslims were tolerant of other religious faiths.

The truth is that religious persecutors from among the disbelievers were the Kafir, and the war was against them only and not against the peaceful people who were never considered Kafir although they were disbelievers.

Quran uses the word “la Yuminun” for the disbelievers and never Kafir.

The importance of knowing about the differences between a Muslim and a Kafir.

MOVING ON WE GO >>>

The importance of knowing about the differences between a Muslim and a Kafir.

A Muslim’s lifestyle contains many rules for their daily life and relationships. The first source of these rules is the Quran and the second is the hadith or reports of the prophet Muhammad’s words or actions.

A Kafir’s lifestyle is lived according to his/her preference without a single hesitation or guilt although knowing the consciences of his/her action. Kafir isn’t a religion unlike Islam is a package deal meaning you can't accept some and reject some, take it or leave it, the choice is yours. Leave alone the verses of the Qur'an if someone denies "Charity" he becomes a disbeliever.

The differences between a Muslim and a Kafir

The Muslims and the kuffar have different rights, obligations and are subject to different Islamic laws assuming that there is an Islamic ruling.

The Muslim is subject to the penalty of adultery and drinking alcohol while the kafir is not.

a Muslim can only partake in festivities and celebrations that agree with the Islamic faith and tradition. These celebrations are reported in the Prophetic tradition and include: Eidul-Fitr (after Ramadān), Eidul-Adhā (after the pilgrims have completed the major rites of Hajj, and etc...

no matter how decorative, tempting, and appealing Christmas or Easter, etc. is made to seem, it is not a celebration that devout Muslims indulge in because, in essence, it would mean that they are showing agreement to religious beliefs that are contrary to Islam.

The importance of knowing about the differences between a Muslim and a Kafir

First, we need to understand why is it important to ascertain the legal status of a person as per Islamic law before answering if a Muslim believer can be a Kafir (disbeliever) or no.

Leading scholar Sheikh Hamza Yusuf, of Zaytuna Institute, says the legal status of a person is important to ascertain because of the consequences of such legal standing concerning marriage, birth, death, property inheritance, etc. A Kafir does not inherit from Muslims, nor do Muslims inherit from a kafir. Moreover, a kafir is not buried according to Islamic funeral rites, nor is he or she prayed for after death by Muslims. A kafir cannot marry a Muslim neither can a Muslim marry a kafir.

In the light of Islamic law, a Muslim may commit acts of Kufr (disbelief) but he cannot be declared a Kafir (disbeliever), meaning that such acts do not take him or her outside of the fold of Islam.

But to keep it short and simple Kufr (disbelief) is the opposite of Imaan (faith) and a Kafir (disbeliever) is the opposite of Mu’min (a believer).

“The adulterer is not a believer at the moment when he (or she) is committing adultery, and the wine drinker is not a believer at the moment when he is drinking wine, and the thief is not a believer at the moment when he is stealing, and the robber is not a believer at the moment when he is robbing and people are looking on.”

WE WILL BE ENDING SOON >>>

The existence of Shahadah is a demarcation line between a Muslim and a Kafir

(أشهد أن لا إله إلا الله وأشهد أن محمداً رسول الله) “I testify that there is no god [worthy of worship] except Allah, and Muhammad is the messenger of Allah

To become a Muslim and to convert to Islam, it is essential to utter the Shahada, one of the Five Pillars of Islam, a declaration of faith and trust that professes that there is only one God (Allah) and that Muhammad is God’s messenger.

Shahadah is the most important pillar of Islam

The prophet said that Islam was established on five pillars. These pillars are the groundwork of Islam as a religious scheme of faith, worship, and devotion.

“Islam was built upon five (pillars): `The testimony that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; the establishment of the prayer; paying the obligatory charity (Zakat); pilgrimage to the House (Hajj to the Ka’bah in Makkah) and fasting (the month of) Ramadan” (Qur’an).

The shahadah is the most important pillar, because without the declaration that there is no god except God and that Muhammad is the Messenger of God the other pillars cannot be practiced and declaring this also show how they believe in the religion of Islam as a whole.

Till you die you have to believe that to enter Paradise. If someone forgets before their death they became nonbelievers. Where Allah says He might forgive all of our sins except making partners with Him.

When is Shahadah recited

  • The Shahadah recitations are only in Muslim activities. The Shahadah is recited in the adhan or call to prayer and by all Muslims performing the daily ritual prayer or Salat.
  • Muslims are continuously reminded of this foundational belief, in the recital of the Shahada (shahadah) during each of the five daily prayers, as well as many more pivotal moments of a Muslim’s life.
  • It is whispered into the ear of a newborn Muslim baby and recited at an aqiqah ceremony. An aqiqah ceremony takes place after a baby is born to celebrate the new life and welcome the baby into the family.
  • The words of the Shahadah should also be the last words a Muslim hears at the moment of death.

CONCLUSION

24%

We ought to be grateful for being blessed with Islam since birth or as a convert This is because Islam is the sole religion that is approved by Allah. Alhamdulillah.

1.8 billion Muslims

Islam is currently the world's second-largest religion
