How high or low a sound is.
How loud or soft a sound is.

Video: Sound
Sound...
Sound is a form of energy that comes fom objects that vibrate. Sound is something that we hear. When you are quiet, put your fingertips on the front of your throat. You will feel stillness. Then say your name aloud. You will feel a slight movement on your fingertips when you speak.
The sound of your voice starts in your throat.
Go on a sound walk to record sounds around us. The students will explore sounds around us and explore how to describe sounds.
Sounds we hear...
birds
steps
talking
car vrooms
barking
wind
Video: Paint
Let's think...
What is making the paint move? What will happen when the speaker is turned off?
The vibrations from the speaker.
The paint will stop moving.
Vibrations
Vibrations are all around us...
People make many sounds by making things vibrate. We kick balls, clap hands and use musical instruments. Without things that vibrate, there is no sound.
People use musical instruments to make....
sounds
Vibrations are all around us...
Sound itself can make other things vibrate. If you hold a piece of paper next to a speaker making sound, the paper will vibrate. If you pound a drum that has another drum next to it, the second drum will vibrate a little. A loud clap of thunder may make a house shake.
Instruments that vibrates
Video
piano
guitar
drum
violin
Waves
Waves is a movement up and down or back and forth. Sound waves are vibrationsthat travel though things. You can't see sound waves. Sound can make things move.
Pitch and Volume
Sound has pitch...
The pitch is a sound is high or low it is. When objects vibrate fast, they cause a high pitch. Whistles and babies make sounds that have a high pitch. When objects vibrate more slowly, they make low pitch. Thunder and drums make sounds that have a low pitch.
Sound has volume...
The volume of a sound is how loud and soft it is. Remember that sound is made when an object vibrates. The stronger the object vibrates, the louder the sound. For example: the harder you beat a drum, the bigger the vibrations and the louder the sound.
Soft volume let you sleep. Some sounds are very loud to warn you to get out of the way.
Megaphones
Megaphones are used to communicate over long distances. Megaphones make voices louder and also they send sound in one direction.
Use sound to communicate
We use objects that make sound to alert us and keep us safe.
Keep practicing!
