I am present
At the New Year
Dear God, we are grateful For full tables and classrooms
For picnics and grandparents
Silly walks and movie nights
And the hopeful glimmer
Of the new moon at Rosh Hashanah.
Dear God, we are prepared
For the power of a new year
And the quiet yearnings in our hearts;
To become better people,
For more being, and less doing;
And the urgent voice of the shofar.
Dear God, may the gates open wide
On contentment and peace
Fun and friendship, new adventures
Making the world a better place;
To finding light within and sharing it
Especially after the gates close.

Naming Our Fears
The Worlds Impact
Imaging the Destination
SHARED CONVERSATION What is a fear that you have
and how has it limited you? What steps would it
take to let it go or overcome it in the new year? FOR YOUNG FAMILIES What is something you worried
about this year? Is there someone who can help you
with your worry? PERSONAL REFLECTION OR MEDITATION Think about
at least three things that cause you to feel afraid.
What patterns do you notice in these things? What
can you learn about yourself by naming your fears?
SHARED CONVERSATION Describe an event in the
world that has impacted you this year. How? Why? FOR YOUNG FAMILIES What big things happened
outside your family this year?
PERSONAL REFLECTION OR MEDITATION How do
current events shape your actions? Have you made
any choices to respond to what you see in the
world? If not, would that change this year?
SHARED CONVERSATION When the Season of Awe
2022 rolls around, what do you hope might be
different about your life and where you’re at as
a result of your reflections and prayer during this
season of awe? FOR YOUNG FAMILIES Next year at this time, how do
you want to feel about this year? PERSONAL REFLECTION OR MEDITATION Thinking
ahead to next year could feel daunting…What do
you feel is the first step on the path that you can
take tomorrow…just the first step?

Who Came Before? Genealogy Resources for Families
The High Holy Days season includes many opportunities for memory, from the Kever Avot observance at the cemetery to Yizkor at Yom Kippur to inviting the ushpizin, or honored guests who are no longer with us, at Sukkot. Here are some resources for family genealogy research for kids and adults alike. We hope this adds to the special meaning of the holidays.

My Heritage
A Psalm of David
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul;
He guides me in the straight paths for His name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil; for You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You have anointed my head with oil; my cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mery shall follow me all the days of my life; and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Meditation Scan
Body scan meditations can be a powerful grounding practice as we enter into reflection and ritual. The High Holy Days invite us to remember the fragility of our own life. When we connect with our body, we not only become more present. We are also reminded of our humanity and mortality. You can watch this meditation alone. Or you can practice it with others, playing it before shared meals, services, or other forms of group reflection and ritual.

Vision Boards
A Book of Jonah song for kids
To make a vision board on paper at home all you need is a posterboard, magazines, markers, scissors and glue.
- List your goals for the new year.
- Go through your magazines and cut out pictures and words that stand out
- to you and fit with your goals for this year. You can also Google specific images you are looking for and print them out!
- Lay your chosen pictures on your posterboard and decide where you want everything to go. Some people put a picture of themselves in the middle, some choose one big word to guide them through the year, and others
- prefer a giant collage.
- Glue all your pictures onto the posterboard. Add writing or designs if you would like.
- Hang your vision board some place where you will see it every day as a reminder to work toward your goals and dreams.
Vision Boards
During the High Holy Days, we set intentions for what we want to do, who we want to be and how we want to live our lives in the new year. On Yom Kippur specifically, we think about how to be better versions of ourselves. A vision board is a collage of images and words representing a person's wishes or goals and is intended to serve as inspiration or motivation. It is a fun and creative way to transform dreams into reality. No two vision boards look alike and there are many ways to create them.

DM’kor Habracha, M’kor Hachayim, Source of Blessing, Source of Life,
help me to sow seeds of joy on this Sukkot, as I nurture the garden
of my mind and soul. In this season of harvest, inspire me to open
my heart and hands to others, as I seek to bring the rains of justice
and compassion to this parched land. Within this home and
community, may we flourish. May we be strengthened by the faces
of our friends and loved ones, guests of past and present, all
gathering under the canopy of Your brilliant star-filled sky.

May we each find
joy and elation while figuratively dancing with our glorious
Torah scrolls. May this joyous holiday help us find new meaning
and hidden gems in our ancient teachings. May we give thanks for
courageous acts of justice and moments of tikkun olam, bountiful
blessings all around us and the gift of sacred community.
Pirkei Avot teaches, “Turn the Torah, and turn it again, for
everything you want to know is found within it.” As we celebrate
the completion of the annual reading of Torah, what cycles of
completion can we celebrate and acknowledge in our lives and
what intention can we set for this next cycle?
