Conjuctions in English
A conjuction is the glue that holds words, phrases, and propositions (both dependent and independent) together. There are three different types of conjuctions: Coordinate, subordinate, and correlative, Each one fulfills it`s own purpose but all work in term of putting the words together.
"Coordinate" conjunctions are what most people think of when they hear the word "conjunction." They join independent words, phrases, and propositions. With them, short, choppy sentences can be joined into fuller lines.
Correlated Conjuctions
Subordinated Conjuction
Correlative conjunctions come in pairs and must be used in different places in a sentence for them to work. These conjunctions work together and connect two of the same grammatical terms. So if a noun follows "both", then a noun must also follow "and".
A subordinate conjunction always introduces a dependent porposition, linking it to an independent proposition. A dependent proposition is a group of words that cannot stand alone as a complete sentence. An independent proposition, on the other hand, may be stand alone.
