Modal Auxiliaries
We all need to express our moods and emotions, both in writing and in our everyday life. We do this by using modal auxiliaries.
Would like expresses desires for things that haven't happened yet.We use it in two ways: → would like + infinitive → would like + (pro)noun + infinitive
WOULD LIKE
EXAMPLES
→ I would like to have dinner earlier today. → She wouldn't like to go to Cuba next year. → Would you like to stay with me?
WOULD rATHER
Would rather expresses preferences or choices. It is often followed by the ifinitive verb and than. If it is negative, not comes after rather.
→ I would rather have coffee than tea. → He would rather not discuss the problem at this point. → Would you rather listen to music from the ’70s or music from today?
