"The Jazz Singer" (first movie ever with synchronized sound, singing and dialogues. This was later called "talkies").Since this took place the film industry changed for ever and this became a norm.
The sound was a transforming factor, this meant new and better ways of recording dialogues, effects and music were required. Sound Stages were built in what we now know as hollywood.
The golden age of Hollywood with "the big 5" (Metro-Goldwyn-Myer, Paramount, RKO, Warner Bros., and 20th Century Fox.) with over 400 motion pictures per year and 90 million tickets sold by week.
In this period the first movie stars were born with actors such as Greta Garbo, Marlon Brando, Audrey Hepburn, John Wayne, Humphrey Bogart, Catherone Hepburn, James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, etc.

With movies such as The Maltese Falcon, Double Indemnity, and The Big Sleep, "Film Noir" was born, were Orson Welles's masterpiece "Citizen Kane" fits.
This decade was also very important due to the introduction of color film, resource the was key to the ddevelopment of the psycological studies known as Color Theory.
In the late 50s and early 60s Alfred Hitchcock made his best contributions to the industry, with iconic movies such as "Virtigo" and "Psycho". He soon came one of the first director who was widely known and respected.
During the 50s the filmmakers took advantage of color and color theory to express the feelings of the characters and thus building more complex and better characters and stories
Simultaneously, asian filmmaking was emerging with directors such as Akira Kurosawa and Yasujiro Ozu.
But the Golden Age was not for ever and there was a problen in the american studio system: Monopoly.

In the mid 1960s Hollywood began hiring a new generation of filmmakers. Some of them were Martin Scorsese, Stiven Spielberg, and Stanley Kubrick with films such as Bonnie and Clyde, The Godfather, Taxi Driver, etc.
To save the industry, filmmaking studios had to take a risk, and started working with college educated filmmakers which has studied the French New Wave. This is called The New Hollywood movement
Due to the changes in the industry thanks to the prohibition of block booking and The New Franch Wave, producers were now freelancers and the audience started prefering foreign movies rather than the classic Hollywood ones.
In the late 1950s, a new movement was born: The French New Wave. This movement broke some rules that were current at the time such as the jump cuts.
Meanwhile in france, the film critique and director Alexandre Atruc published what is known as "The Birth of a New Avant-Garde La Camera-Stylo"
In the 50s, the USA called the studios to trial and sued them for an illegal monopoly which changed the industry forever.

The Comput-Genrated Imagery (CGI) (special effects generated by a computer) came into scene in the 1990s with movies such as terminator and Jurasic Park.
Alejandro Gonzáles Iñárritu, Alfonso Cuarón y Emmanuel Lubezki are mexican filmmakers who have popularized the ultra long camera shots with movies such as birdman, The revenant, Roma and 1917.
In the 2000s CGI continued to find its fitting with great movies like The Lord of the Rings trilogy and gave rise to the superhero movies which now a days are box office hits
In 2020 Bong Joon-ho made history with his film Parasite, being the first foreign language film to win Best Picture in the Oscar's.
This CGI technology was favorable for independent filmmakers such as Paul Thomas Anderson, the Coen brothers and Quantin Tarantino
