FORMS OF ENERGY

CLASS V EVS

1.Sound Energy2. Food Energy 3. Electrical Energy 4.Heat Enenrgy 5. Light Energy 6.Mehanical Energy

1.Sound Energy

  • Sound is the movement of energy through a substance – like air or water – and is caused by vibrations. Solids, liquids and gases transmit sound as waves.
  • Sound energy is the movement of energy through a substance in waves.
  • Examples: Talk or Sing, Clap, Playing Musical Instruments etc.,

2.Food Energy

  • We all need energy to grow, stay alive, keep warm and be active. Energy is provided by the carbohydrate, protein and fat in the food and drinks we consume.
  • Different food and drinks provide different amounts of energy.
  • Energy is measured in units of kilocalories (kcal) or kilojoules (kJ).

3. Electrical Energy

  • Electrical energy is the power an atom's charged particles have to cause an action or move an object. The movement of electrons from one atom to another is what results in electrical energy.
  • Every time you plug a toaster or cellphone charger into a wall outlet, electrical energy is powering those devices. Examples of this kind of energy are also seen in electric eels, lightning, and batteries.

4. Hear Energy

  • Heat is the form of energy that is transferred between systems or objects with different temperatures (flowing from the high-temperature system to the low-temperature system).
  • Also referred to as heat energy or thermal energy. Heat is typically measured in Btu, calories or joules.
  • Heat flow, or the rate at which heat is transferred between systems, has the same units as power: energy per unit time (J/s)

5. Light Energy

  • Light is a form of energy which our sense of sight can detect. It is made of electro-magnetic radiation and travels in a straight path.
Examples:
  • Sun is the best example for light energy. The sun gives plants light energy which is converted into chemical energy and use them for their own nutrition.
  • Light energy can also be converted into thermal energy when for example the sun heats up your black shirt or a brick wall outside.

6. Mechanical Energy

  • Mechanical energy is a form of energy. It is all the energy that an object has because of its motion and its position. All living things and all machines use mechanical energy to do work.
  • Mechanical energy can exist as both stored energy (potential energy) and moving energy (kinetic energy).
  • Example, a brick held at a vertical position above the ground or zero height position).
