Chapter 1

A story has five basic but important elements. These five components are: the characters, the setting, the plot, the conflict, and the resolution. These essential elements keep the story running smoothly and allow the action to develop in a logical way that the reader can follow.

Read the chapter 1

Pip meets a stranger

Read the chapter one and take notes of new words that you come across and look up their meaning in the dictionary for a better understading of the story. Ex: File: a small tool with a rough edge that is used to make a surface smooth

Questions

1. Who are the characters in the story? 2. What is the setting of the story?3. Why did Pip often visit the churchyard?4. What did Pip think 'bringing up by hand' meant?

5. What did Pip steal from the kitchen for the convict? 6. Why did the convict need the file?7. Is the story told in first person or in third person? Who is telling the story?

After responding to the previous questions about chapter one: 1. Create a Powtoon presentation using Powtoon or any other app to make creative videos.(Capcut is another app for videos) 2. Bring to life what happens in the story.

2. Watch a tutorial if Powtoon is going to be used.

3. Length: 1 minute 4. Content of chapter 15. Use vocabulary from chapter 1: Churchyard, gravestone, marshes, file, chain, scolded, prison-ship

7. Be creative and use music for the presentation.8. Proofread your presentation carefully before submitting it. 9. The story has to be told in first person (from Pip's point of view)
