Reported Speech se basa en volver a contar lo que alguien dijo o escribió. Por lo tanto, cambiamos un discurso directo por el reported speech.

"The plane will be late", they said. They said that the plane would be late.

La clave para pasar frases directas a reported speech reside en cambiar el tiempo verbal a uno más pasado.

Reported Speech

• (Present Simple) "I drink coffee every morning", she said.
• (Past Simple) She said (that) she drank coffee every morning.

• (present Continuous) "I'm having a nice time", she said.
• (Past Continuous) She said (that) she was having a nice time .

• (Present Perfect) "I've booked my summer holiday", he said.
• (Past Perfect) He said (that) he had booked his summer holiday.
