Reading Skill Author's Purpose
- Sometimes an author may have different reasons why he or she writes a text.
- When we talk about an author's purpose, we are talking about why the author wrote that text.
Author's Purpose
To make it easier for you to remember the three principal author purposes, you can memorize them with the acronym PIE. Click on each letter to see what each letter stands for.
What genre is this text? We will listen and read along the first three pages; then, you will continue reading two sentences each; finally, you will have three min to finish reading. As you read, you should underline in red the parts you think shows what the author’s purpose(s) is(are).
Scan your RB on pp. 98-105.
