We use the sperlative form to say that something is the best in a group.

Example: The giraffe is the tallest animal in the desert.

Short adjectives:

One syllable or two syllables ending in 'y', 'ow', or er'

One syllable: tall

Short adjectives:

Example: The giraffe is the tall animal in the desert.

If a short adjective ends in consonant / vowel / consonant, then we double the last consonant before adding 'est'

SPELLING

Example: big => the biggest

two syllables with special ending: lazy

Short adjectives:

Example: The lion is the lazi animal in the desert.

Don't forget to change 'y' into 'i' before adding 'est'!!

Two syllables with other endings and three or more syllables.

There are three exceptions among the adjectives:

The superlative is often followed by a preposition.

IN when you talk about places or groups

Ex: The antelope is the fastest animal in the desert.

Ex: The antelope is the most serious animal in the class.

OF when you talk about a period of time

Ex: The antelope is the fastest animal of the month.
